Man remanded after hammer report in St Austell town centre
A 48-year-old man has been charged and remanded in custody after police were called to reports of a man carrying a hammer in St Austell town centre.

The arrest
Officers attended the town centre on the morning of Tuesday 14 July following reports of a man in possession of a hammer. Robert Johnston, 48, of Timber Close, was arrested at the scene.
The charges
After an investigation, the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS authorised three charges against Robert: possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and threatening to destroy or damage property.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Truro Magistrates Court on 18 August.
Police said they remain committed to tackling violent crime and keeping communities safe.
