Matthew Bradfield remanded over St Austell burglary charges

A man has been remanded in custody after police were called to a reported burglary on one of St Austell’s busiest streets, with neighbours playing a direct part in what happened next.

What police said happened

Officers were called to High Street in St Austell on the evening of Monday 22 June following a report of a burglary at a home. Police said the man involved was not known to the homeowners, and that a vehicle was taken during the incident.

Officers arrested Matthew Bradfield at the scene. According to police, he was identified by the homeowners and neighbours before being detained.

Charged and sent to crown court

Matthew Bradfield was charged with a number of theft-related offences and remanded to court.

He appeared at Cornwall Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 24 June, where he was remanded to prison. He is due to stand trial at Truro Crown Court on 28 July.

Thanks to the community

Police thanked the homeowners and neighbours for their help in identifying and detaining the man, describing it as a distressing incident for those involved.
