Polkerris beach casualty stops St Austell Coastguard school visit

A class of pupils was promised a visit from the coastguard. A casualty on Polkerris beach had other ideas.

St Austell Coastguard were tasked to Polkerris at 1.30pm to help the ambulance service with a casualty on the beach.

The team took over casualty care and kept it going until the ambulance arrived. That early treatment mattered. Their work meant the ambulance did not have to take the casualty to hospital.

The coastguard thanked the public and the staff at the water sports centre for their help.

The school visit that didn’t happen

The team were on their way to a school PR event when the tasking came in. The pupils did not get their visit.

“Sorry to all the pupils who were expecting to see us, we will come back another day,” the team said.
