St Austell’s New Pump Track Opens with Tricks, Tips and a Mayor on Wheels

Hundreds turned out at The Meadows Park yesterday to see something St Austell has never had before.

St Austell’s newly elected Mayor, Councillor Ethan Stephens, formally opened the Town Council’s Pump Track at The Meadows Park on Thursday 28th May 2026. The opening exhibition drew hundreds of families and BMX bike enthusiasts across the day.

A Mayor, a BMX Champion and a Crowd

Fusion Extreme were on hand with tricks, displays and workshops, and even talked Ethan through his own lap of the track.

The track itself was designed and built by champion BMX rider Kye Forte, and according to the Town Council it ranks as one of the best in the south west.

Plenty for the Younger Ones

The day was not just for BMX riders. Young children had face painting, badge making, large park games, an inflatable giant dartboard and a dance display from a local dance group to keep them busy.

The Police and Fire Brigade also turned up in support, letting young people climb in and look around the police car and fire engine.

Built by Volunteers, Funded by the Council

The Town Council thanked the volunteers who helped bring the track to life and who continue to support events held there.

St Austell Town Clerk, David Pooley said:

“It has been a brilliant day and the new pump track is a fantastic addition to the recreational facilities which exist in and around St Austell. It is a high-quality track which was designed and built by champion BMX rider Kye Forte and is one of the best in the south west.”

The Pump Track was funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund and St Austell Town Council, and was completed at the end of 2025.
