What has been happening

St Austell Police say they have been in contact with St Dennis Parish Council about e-bikes being ridden on the recreation ground off Fore Street in the evenings.

The riding has caused extensive damage to the turf, according to officers. The riders are believed to be young people from the St Dennis area.

What police are doing about it

Officers are carrying out enquiries to try to identify those responsible, and targeted patrols in the area are being stepped up.

Police say anyone identified will be liable for prosecution for road traffic and criminal damage offences.

Can police take the e-bikes?

Yes. Police say any e-bikes linked to the suspects are liable to be seized under powers available to them through the Road Traffic Act and the Police Reform Act.

A message for riders and parents

Officers made a direct appeal to the riders and their families.

“If you are the rider or the parents of these riders, please take responsibility and ensure that they are not ridden on the road or in public places,” St Austell Police said.

They pointed out that the recreation ground is well used by the local community, including young children.

How to help

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact police using the Devon and Cornwall Police online form, quoting reference 50260288927.
