Edward Hain Centre to Host Free ‘Viva Volunteering’ Coffee Morning in St Ives

Free Coffee and a New Chapter: What’s Happening at Edward Hain This Saturday?

The Edward Hain Centre is preparing to welcome the community for a free “Viva Volunteering” coffee morning this Saturday 28th February at the Western Hotel in St Ives.

The event marks what the Centre describes as an exciting new phase of expansion, as it continues to grow its range of health and wellbeing activities.

Visitors can drop in at any point during the two-hour event, where free coffee and biscuits will be available. Staff, trustees and volunteers from the Centre will be on hand to give demonstrations, chat with attendees and answer questions.

Nadine Tonner, Community Hub Officer and Business Help at the Edward Hain Centre, said: “Everyone is welcome to come along to meet us and find out what we’re all about! We’ll also have plenty of information leaflets that people can pick up and take home. Either drop in for a short while to say Hello, or stay for the whole two hours.”

Why Volunteer?

As the Centre continues to add new services alongside regular activities such as Yoga and the Crochet and Craft group, its need for volunteers is increasing.

The team hopes the relaxed setting of Saturday’s coffee morning will encourage more people to consider getting involved.

Volunteering is widely recognised as a way to meet people, build new connections and become part of a community effort. The Centre also highlights the health and wellbeing benefits.

Shelley, one of the Centre’s volunteers, said: “As well as being very satisfying work, volunteering has been great for my mental health. It’s wonderful being part of this team.”

A Wide Range of Roles

Nadine Tonner explained that there are opportunities to suit different interests, age groups and levels of commitment.

These include joining a Meet & Greet team to guide people to appointments or workshops, providing office support, helping with indoor and outdoor cleaning and clearing, and supporting events such as coffee mornings, celebrations and markets.

Volunteers can also help with games and activities during Elderly Visitors afternoons, or support art, games and cookery sessions at the Centre’s new Hain Home-Ed Hub for school age children.

“You can even help us organise events,” Nadine said. “Or become a Community Group Ambassador or Fundraising Champion” which, she added, will be explained on the day.

Making a Difference

For many volunteers, being part of a community organisation brings a strong sense of purpose.

With its expanding programme of services and activities, the Edward Hain Centre says it offers a range of ways for people to get involved, whether that means choosing a specific role or trying something new.

The “Viva Volunteering” coffee morning takes place this Saturday 28th February at the Western Hotel in St Ives and is open to all.
