New defibrillator installed at Roskilly’s near St Keverne

A yellow cabinet has gone up at the bottom of the car park at Roskilly’s, and the farm is hoping it is one addition nobody ever actually has to use.

Roskilly’s, the working organic dairy farm and ice cream producer near St Keverne on the Lizard Peninsula, has confirmed it now has a defibrillator on site. The farm credits St Keverne Parish Council for providing the piece of equipment, and its own Croust House manager, Sharon Stephens, for campaigning to get one installed in the first place.

Sharon pushed for the defibrillator to be made available at Roskilly’s, and the farm has called its arrival a real milestone, pointing to Sharon’s determination in making the case for it.

The defibrillator is mounted at the hand wash station at the bottom of Roskilly’s car park. Anyone who needs it in an emergency is told to dial 999 first, give their location, and stay on the line while the access code for the cabinet is given over the phone. A what3words reference for the exact spot was also shared, for anyone who needs to describe the location quickly.

Why now

Roskilly’s says the number of visitors, staff and members of the local community using the farm has been growing, and it wanted potentially life-saving equipment on hand for when it’s needed. The hope, in the farm’s own words, is that the defibrillator sits there largely unused. But knowing it is there, and that people know how to reach it, is the point.
