The first campers pitched up at a farm outside Padstow in 1971. Some of the children who came on those early holidays are now arriving with children of their own.

Tregavone Farm Holiday Park in St Merryn is marking 55 years of family holidays this month, and it is throwing a party to say thank you. Everyone is invited, whether they are staying on the park or not.

A family affair since 1971

The park is run by Kelly Dennis and her husband Richard, alongside their children Mawgan and Archie. Other members of the wider family also work and help across the site.

Over five and a half decades Tregavone has grown from its early camping days into the holiday park visitors know today. The family says it has been determined to keep the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and sense of space that have been part of holidays at the farm for generations.

The families who keep coming back

For the Dennis family, one of the most special parts of running Tregavone has been watching generations of the same families return, including former childhood holidaymakers who now bring their own children.

Kelly Dennis said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating 55 years of camping here at Tregavone Farm Holiday Park. What started all those years ago has grown and changed enormously, but at the heart of it, Tregavone is still very much a family-run farm and campsite.

“We’ve been lucky enough to welcome generations of the same families back year after year, and that’s probably the loveliest part of it all, seeing children who once holidayed here returning with children of their own.

“Over the years we’ve added and improved lots of things, most recently Tregavone Kitchen and Bar, but we’ve always tried to keep that relaxed, friendly feel that makes Tregavone what it is.

“We’re hugely grateful to everyone who has stayed with us, supported us and become part of the Tregavone story over the last 55 years. Here’s to many more!”

The park welcomes tents, touring caravans, campervans and motorhomes, alongside static caravan accommodation. Its location gives visitors a base for exploring Padstow and the surrounding North Cornwall coast, including the 7 Bays.

Families and dogs are both welcome. There is plenty of open space and a dedicated dog-walking field, alongside the park’s modern facilities.

The family describes Tregavone as a working family environment rather than a large commercial resort, and believes that is an important part of why so many guests return.

Tregavone Kitchen and Bar

One of the biggest recent additions is Tregavone Kitchen and Bar. The Kitchen serves everything from breakfasts and coffees to pizzas, burgers and loaded fries. The Bar has become a place for guests to meet, relax and spend an evening together.

Live music, bingo, DJ nights and other events have become a regular part of the summer season.

And it is open to more than holidaymakers. Local residents and non-residents are welcome too, and both the Kitchen and the Bar are available all year round for private events.

The next 55

For Kelly, Richard and their family, the anniversary is a chance to celebrate everyone who has played a part in Tregavone’s story. That includes the generations of the family who built and developed the business, the staff, the seasonal guests, the local community and the thousands of holidaymakers who have passed through its gates since 1971.

The family’s ambition for the years ahead is a simple one: to keep improving the park without losing the character, friendliness and family atmosphere it started with.
