Fistral Beach’s national lifesaving finals go live for the first time

Watching the country’s fastest board paddlers and swimmers battle it out on Fistral Beach has always meant being on the sand yourself. From this year’s Open Championships, that’s no longer the only option.

A first for the Open Championships

Surf Life Saving GB is livestreaming the individual finals from the SLSGB Open National Championships at Fistral Beach in Newquay for the first time in the event’s history. The finals, winner interviews, and results and updates will go out through the charity’s YouTube channel across the Saturday and Sunday of the Championships, giving anyone who can’t make it down to the beach a way to follow the racing as it happens.

It’s a step up for an event that has, until now, only really existed for the people stood on the sand watching it.

What SLSGB says to expect

The organisation is candid that this is a first attempt at the format, saying to expect a few surprises and plenty of action over the two days of coverage. The aim is a livestream that captures the finals, the reaction from winners straight off the water, and results as they come in, all in one place rather than scattered across posts after the event.

Coverage runs across the Saturday and Sunday of the Championships, with the stream hosted on SLSGB’s YouTube channel.

Exact start times and the full schedule are still to be confirmed. SLSGB says more details are coming soon, so it’s one to bookmark rather than one with a set kick-off time just yet.
