Heligan squeezes in two more days of Rangers holiday club

Two more days of muddy hands and wide grins have just been added to the Cornwall summer, right at the point when the holidays are running thin and school hasn’t quite arrived yet.

Two extra sessions added by popular demand

The Lost Gardens of Heligan has opened two extra dates for its Heligan Rangers Holiday Club, after demand for the summer sessions ran ahead of the spaces on offer. Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2 have been added exclusively for 8 to 12 year olds, with drop-off at 8:45am and collection at 3pm.

What the extra days involve

Expect outdoor adventures, exciting challenges, nature, games and plenty of wild fun with the Rangers team, run in the heart of the Heligan estate near Mevagissey. It is billed as one last proper adventure before the school bags come back out.

Where to drop off and collect

Sessions meet at The Hollow, to the right of the ticket office and signposted from the main path. Staff will be there from 15 minutes before the start time, and children are brought back to the same spot at the end of the day. Anyone running more than 15 minutes late, at either end, is asked to call Heligan reception on 01726 845100.

What to pack

• A packed lunch and snacks for the day
• Waterproof trousers and a jacket
• Wellies for damp ground, or old trainers on a dry day
• Warm layers in case the weather turns
• A sun hat and sunscreen if it is bright
• A refillable water bottle, which can be topped up on site

Medication only travels with a child if it was declared on the booking form, or emailed to the team in advance. Phones and other devices are asked to stay at home, since there is no opportunity to use them and no way to guarantee their safety.

Who is running the sessions

Sessions are led by Heligan’s Learning Engagement Lead, a qualified teacher, alongside experienced team members. Every member of the Rangers team holds an enhanced DBS check and safeguarding training, at least one person on site each day is trained in paediatric first aid, and the ratio never goes beyond eight children to every member of staff.

Booking and what comes next

Spaces are limited, and bookings go through Heligan’s ticket site. Cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice and a refund should still be possible, leave it later than that and it may not be. And for anyone with a younger child feeling left out, Heligan says its youngest Rangers have not been forgotten. Six and seven year olds get their turn when the club returns for October half term.
