Cornwall speed checks: where police will be watching this week
If you’re driving through Mid Cornwall or East Cornwall at any point this week, it might be worth easing off the accelerator a little sooner than usual. Devon & Cornwall Police’s Road Safety Team has published its weekly rundown of where speed detection officers will primarily be working, and the two Cornwall patches feature on every single weekday.

Where officers will be, day by day
The Road Safety Team shared the schedule for the week commencing Monday 17 August. It covers roads right across Devon and Cornwall, with officers moving between areas through the week rather than staying in one place.
- Monday: Mid Cornwall, East Cornwall, Mid Devon, Torbay, North Devon
- Tuesday: Mid Cornwall, East Cornwall, North Devon, East Devon, Torbay
- Wednesday: Mid Cornwall, East Cornwall, Exeter, West Devon
- Thursday: Mid Cornwall, East Cornwall, East Devon, Mid Devon
- Friday: Mid Cornwall, East Cornwall, South Devon, South Hams, North Devon
- Saturday: North Devon, Plymouth, South Devon, South Hams
- Sunday: North Devon, Dartmoor, Torbay, Teignbridge
Cornwall’s covered Monday to Friday, then the focus shifts east
Look down that list and a pattern jumps out. Mid Cornwall and East Cornwall appear on every single weekday, Monday through Friday, without a single day off. Come the weekend, both drop off the list entirely, with officers instead working across North Devon, Plymouth, South Devon, South Hams, Dartmoor, Torbay and Teignbridge.
North Devon is the constant through the whole week, featuring on five of the seven days. Torbay also crops up three times, on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday.
What the police are asking
The message from the Road Safety Team is a simple one, whichever day and wherever you’re driving. “Please drive carefully and within the speed limit wherever you are,” the team said in its post.
The areas listed are described as where officers will “primarily” be working, so speed checks elsewhere in Devon and Cornwall on any given day are not ruled out.
