What Is a Defibrillator and Why Is It Important?

A defibrillator (or defib) is a life-saving device used when someone is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It delivers a controlled electric shock to the heart, helping to restore a normal rhythm.

Many public defibrillators are automated external defibrillators (AEDs), meaning they give clear instructions and can be used by anyone – no medical training required. Acting quickly in an emergency is critical, as using a defibrillator within minutes of cardiac arrest can drastically increase survival chances.

Truro BID has compiled this updated defibrillator list to ensure anyone who needs one can find the nearest location quickly. If you know of a new defibrillator not listed, they are asking for updates to keep the information as accurate as possible.

Knowing where these devices are could make all the difference. Would you know where to go in an emergency?
