Free Parking Returns After 4pm in Truro… But Only in These Spots

Free parking after 4pm has been reintroduced at two car parks in Truro, in a move welcomed by Truro BID and Truro City Council.

Cornwall Council confirmed that from Friday 10th April, motorists can park for free after 4pm at Edward Street car park and Moresk (Oakway) car park.

Where the free parking applies

The change applies to the following locations:

• Edward Street car park (TR1 3AJ), near Truro Crown Court, with 134 spaces
• Moresk, Oakway (TR1 1DW), next to the Pydar development area, with 115 spaces

Both sites now offer free parking daily from 4pm onwards.

However, the council has confirmed that this change applies only to these two car parks. Charges will still apply at all other Cornwall Council car parks in Truro.

Campaign for change

The return of free evening parking follows ongoing discussions between Truro BID, Truro City Council and Cornwall Council.

Charges after 4pm were first introduced in April 2023, removing free evening parking across the city.

Since November 2024, Truro BID and Truro City Council have been meeting with Cornwall Council to raise concerns around parking capacity and cost. Truro BID also gathered support from more than 125 businesses through letters and emails calling for the return of free evening parking.

Councillors support the move

Cornwall Councillors Rob Nolan and Steven Webb played a role in bringing the changes into place. Both were present at the car parks from 4pm on Friday 10th April to speak with residents and help raise awareness.
