Jayne Kirkham MP Visits Truro Leisure Centre for National Fitness Day 2025
Truro Leisure Centre hosts National Fitness Day 2025
Truro Leisure Centre welcomed Jayne Kirkham MP on Wednesday 24th September as part of National Fitness Day 2025. Free sessions including gym tasters, aqua fit, Pilates and yoga were on offer throughout the day.
Jayne watched an aqua fit class before testing out some of the gym equipment herself.
GLL’s role in Cornwall
The visit was hosted by James Curry, GLL Head of Service in Cornwall. GLL, operating under the Better brand, is the not-for-profit social enterprise that manages nine leisure centres in Cornwall, including Truro, on behalf of the council.
James said:
“Jayne Kirkham is clearly a strong advocate for ensuring some of the £400m announced in the government spending review for grassroot sport finds its way into Cornwall and in particular swimming pools.
“She was particularly keen to understand the challenges around school swimming, the transport network, the impact of A30 works, National Insurance changes and cost pressures as well as reaffirming her commitment to support the health prevention agenda and switching NHS funding down this pathway as part of the 10-year plan.”

National Fitness Day across the UK
National Fitness Day is coordinated by ukactive, the UK’s trade body for the physical activity sector. The campaign is supported by gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres and sports clubs across the country, with events also running in workplaces, schools and hospitals.
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said:
“More people than ever are prioritising their mental and physical health, and National Fitness Day is the perfect moment to celebrate the importance of staying active and making a change towards a more active, healthier lifestyle.
“Gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres are the driving force behind getting the nation moving and it is great to see MPs supporting the campaign and acknowledging the importance of these facilities and services in creating a healthier, happier nation.”
