What has been applied for
The Port has submitted an application for a Lawful Development Certificate covering the turning circle at the end of Newham Road. The proposal sets out the storage of boats and harbour equipment, alongside general storage, site clearance, upgrades to the existing hard standing, and new fencing and gates.
The application can be viewed on the Cornwall Council planning portal under reference PA26/04225.
Part of a longer-term plan
According to Newham BID, the application forms part of the Port’s wider vision to redevelop Lighterage Quay, with the aim of supporting light marine industries and bringing the quay back into more active use. Newham BID says it has the potential to benefit both Newham and the wider Port of Truro through fresh economic activity and investment. The proposals are still at an early stage.
Nearby, the Maritime Workshop and Office opposite Truro Boat Owners Association will soon be offered for sale. Enquiries can be made on 01872 324216.
