Truro’s A390 shuts overnight from Monday near Royal Cornwall Hospital

If you’re due at Royal Cornwall Hospital any night over the next fortnight, build in extra time to get there. One of the main routes into the hospital site is about to close for hours at a stretch, right through the hours when it matters most.

Resurfacing starts this Monday

From this Monday, 7 September, Cormac is carrying out resurfacing work on the A390 between Royal Cornwall Hospital and County Hall in Truro. The closure will run overnight, from 7pm to 4am, on weekday nights for up to two weeks. Outside those hours the road stays open, with lane closures in place instead of a full shutdown.

What it means for patients and visitors

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust says the closure may affect anyone needing the emergency department or maternity services between those hours. Emergency access will be maintained throughout the works. Residential and business access will be controlled through gateways staffed by traffic marshals, rather than a free run of the road.

Need urgent care overnight? Check before you set off

If you need urgent care while the works are underway, the Trust is asking people to check its website for the nearest and quickest minor injury unit or urgent treatment centre before travelling. With one route into the hospital site restricted overnight, it could be the difference between a straightforward trip and a long diversion.
