Truro’s County Arms puts up a marquee for its first beer festival

A cup you get to keep, nine beers you may not have tried, and a Sunday given over to sea shanties. The County Arms in Truro is holding its first ever beer festival, and it runs for three days.

Three days in a marquee

The festival opens at 4pm next Friday (2 October) in a festival marquee set up in the pub’s large outdoor area. Nine special beers from breweries across the region will be on the bar, alongside ciders, food, live music and family-friendly activities.

Each day has its own flavour.

Friday 2 October

Entertainment runs through the evening from the 4pm opening, building up to a “Through the Eras” DJ set to finish the night.

Saturday 3 October

A full day of live music and festival food, with plenty of time to work through the beer list and find something new.

Sunday 4 October

The last day turns to Cornwall’s heritage, with sea shanties, community fundraising and a charity raffle.

Months in the planning

Tom Hollins, general manager at the County Arms, said: “We’re so excited to welcome people to our first ever beer festival. We have been planning this for months and we cannot wait to see the pub filled with incredible energy, smiling faces, and unforgettable festival vibes.”

Tickets, and where some of the money goes

Weekend tickets cost £20. That covers entry on all three days, a reusable County Arms Festival cup, and either three pints or six half pints from the festival beer selection. Day tickets are available too.

Ten per cent of the ticket price will go to the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust, which supports local charities, community causes and individuals in need across the South West. Since it was set up in 2003, the Trust has raised and distributed more than £1.5 million.

The pub is owned by St Austell Brewery, which was founded as a family-owned company in 1851 and is marking its 175th anniversary this year. It owns more than 160 pubs across the South West.
