Why Truro businesses are told a call to the Rangers isn’t enough

If something goes wrong on your premises, who you tell about it matters more than you might think.

Businesses and organisations in Truro are being reminded to keep reporting all crime and anti-social behaviour through the correct channels. The reminder comes from Truro BID, which says that some of the routes people reach for first don’t count as a report at all.

The three ways to report

All crimes and incidents, including anti-social behaviour, should go to Devon and Cornwall Police in one of three ways:

• at the time, by calling 999 or 101
• through the Devon and Cornwall Police website
• through the SentrySIS Crime Reporting Tool

Signing up to SentrySIS

If you report through SentrySIS, you do not need to call 101 as well.

To sign up, email UKPAC at [email protected] with your name, your business and your email address.

Why the route matters

Truro BID says that not reporting through these methods reduces police crime data. And that has a knock-on effect. Fewer recorded reports weaken requests for additional police resources and security funding for the city.

What doesn’t count

Contacting the Rangers, getting in touch with Truro BID or posting about an incident on social media does not replace reporting it.

The Rangers can attend where appropriate. But they will not report to the police on your behalf.
