Fire behind Tesco in Wadebridge prompts store evacuation

A trip to the supermarket does not usually end with an evacuation. For shoppers at the Tesco Superstore in Wadebridge, it did. A hedge row directly behind the store caught fire, and the building was cleared as a precaution while crews got to work.

What happened behind the Tesco Superstore

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which involved a hedge row on fire behind the Tesco Superstore in the town. The store was evacuated as a precaution, and there were no reported injuries.

The fire is now out and all fire service resources have left the scene. In a post on its Facebook page, Wadebridge Community Fire Station thanked everyone who reported the incident and helped keep the area clear while crews dealt with it.

A warning as the dry weather holds

The crews left one request before they packed up. With the ground this parched, they asked people to remain vigilant during the dry conditions and to take extra care with anything that could cause a fire to spread.
