Wadebridge’s Letters to Loved Ones post box returns to Egloshayle

Some letters never need a stamp. They only need somewhere to go.

In Wadebridge, that place is back. The white ‘Letters to Loved Ones’ post box has returned to Egloshayle Cemetery, Wadebridge Town Council has announced.

Why the post box was removed

The post box was taken away for a while after it was damaged earlier this summer.

Since then the fixing plate has been repaired and a new sign has been made. The council says the box is now ready to receive letters once again.

How the Letters to Loved Ones box works

The sign beside the box asks people to post their letters inside. No stamp is required, just “seal it with love”.

All letters remain unopened and are not shared. Each month they are shredded, and that material is composted and used for planting new growth within the cemetery grounds.

Autumn planting around the post box

The council’s Parks team will be planting around the post box this autumn, adding some seasonal colour to brighten up the area.

The council is hoping the box can stay where it is, although it says it may need to reconsider the location if the post box is damaged again in the future.

Thanking people for their patience while repairs were carried out, the council said it hopes the post box “continues to provide a special place to leave messages for loved ones”.
