Why Wadebridge’s Jubilee Play Area now looks so empty

If you’ve walked past Jubilee Play Area lately, you’ll have noticed the gaps. Wide patches of bark chip, a few picnic tables, and a lot less to climb on than there used to be.

Why the equipment was taken away

Wadebridge Town Council says a large amount of the play equipment at the site has recently been removed.

The equipment had reached the end of its usable life. Following safety assessments, the council made what it called “the difficult decision” to remove it to keep children safe.

The play area is partially closed as a result. But the remaining equipment that is safe is still available to use.

A fully inclusive play area for Jubilee Fields

The council is clear that this isn’t the end for the play area. It is working to raise funds for a new, fully inclusive play area at Jubilee Fields, a space where children and young people of all ages and abilities can play together.

The vision includes accessible equipment, sensory play and inclusive features, so that as many children as possible can enjoy the space.

The council is seeking grants, sponsorship, business support and community fundraising to make it happen.

A Jubilee Park Inclusive Play for All Crowdfunder is already open for donations. Updates and other ways to get involved will be shared on the council’s social media and website.
