Cornwall Council Adds Cartons and Plastic Wrappings to Household Recycling
Cornwall Recycling Just Changed: Are You Using the Right Bag?
People across Cornwall can now recycle more household items following a change announced by Cornwall Council.
From Monday 16th March, residents can start putting food and drink cartons, plastic bags and plastic wrappings in their household recycling.
The change means items that were previously harder to recycle at home can now be placed in the red recycling bag, as long as they are prepared correctly.

Cartons Now Accepted
The update includes Tetra Pak-style cartons commonly used for products such as milk, juice and soups.
Before recycling, cartons should be rinsed out and squashed. Once flattened, they can be placed directly in the red recycling bag.
What To Do With Plastic Bags And Wrappings
Plastic bags, film lids and wrappers can also now be recycled.
Cornwall Council says these items should be squashed into a single bag, such as:
-
A bread bag
-
A fruit or vegetable bag
-
A carrier bag
The bag should then be tied up before being placed in the red recycling bag. This helps prevent lighter plastic materials from blowing away during collection.
The change came into effect from Monday 16th March, meaning households across Cornwall can begin recycling these materials straight away.
