Saturday turns wet

Cornwall started the day with a mixed bag. Eastern parts of the region saw a bright start, while areas further west were already cloudy with showery outbreaks of rain.

Those showers are set to become more widespread through the afternoon and turn persistent later in the day. Despite the gloom, it remains rather warm and humid, with temperatures peaking at 17°C.

Overnight, the rain becomes persistent across the region, with some heavier bursts likely across eastern counties. There is a glimmer of hope towards dawn, when the rain should clear southern areas for a time. Temperatures dip to a minimum of 8°C.

Sunday brings the rumbles

Sunday looks unsettled, with cloudy skies and further outbreaks of rain expected. Some heavy bursts are likely over the hills and moors, which could mean a wet day for anyone heading up to Bodmin Moor or the higher ground around the county.

By the afternoon, the rain breaks into showers, with the chance of thundery downpours. Brighter spells are possible later in the day. Maximum temperature on Sunday is 16°C.

Drying up by midweek

The outlook from Monday into Wednesday offers some relief. Showers will ease during Monday and Tuesday, with sunnier spells emerging. Wednesday brings similar conditions with variable amounts of cloud.

It will feel fresher than recent days as temperatures fall away, so anyone hoping to make use of the rest of the bank holiday week should be prepared to dig out a jumper.
