03/01/2026 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Ice
A yellow weather warning for ice is in place today, Saturday 3rd January, covering parts of the south west of England.
The warning was issued by the Met Office and runs from 6pm on Friday 2nd January through to 10am this morning.
Our latest update for today including a warning for tonight can be found here – https://cornishstuff.com/weather/update-03-01-2026-weather-in-cornwall-yellow-weather-warning-for-ice/
What is expected
The Met Office says there are likely to be icy stretches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. There is also the possibility of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Showers of rain, sleet and some snow affected parts of the south west on Friday evening and overnight into Saturday morning. Where showers occurred, icy conditions developed on untreated surfaces.
While many areas are expected to see little or no snow settling, there is potential for one to two centimetres of snow over higher ground, including Bodmin Moor, the west of Dartmoor and Exmoor.
Travel advice
People heading out this morning are advised to take extra care. The Met Office recommends leaving the house at least five minutes earlier than normal, as not rushing can reduce the risk of accidents, slips and falls.
Those travelling on foot are advised to use pavements along main roads, which are more likely to be less slippery. Cyclists are also encouraged to stick to main roads that are more likely to have been treated.
Drivers are advised to check road conditions before travelling, while bus and train users should check timetables and amend plans if necessary.
Why the warning is yellow
The Met Office says the warning is classed as yellow because there is a medium likelihood of icy conditions, but the overall impact is expected to be low. Weather warnings can change, and people are advised to stay up to date with the latest local forecast.
