If you were hoping for a week of bright spring sunshine to kick off May, you might want to lower your expectations. The latest forecast for the South West points to a largely grey and cloudy stretch ahead, with temperatures cooling as the week wears on.

A Grey Start to the Week

Today opens with a cloudy and grey picture across the region. Some brighter spells are likely to develop as the day goes on, but a few showers remain on the cards. In any brighter interludes it should feel pleasant, with a maximum temperature of 18°C.

This evening, showers will mostly fade away. The night looks largely cloudy and dry, with only a slight chance of the odd shower where the cloud thickens. It stays fairly mild, with a minimum of 7°C.

Tuesday’s Outlook

Tuesday gets going under cloudy skies, perhaps with the odd shower thrown in early on. The afternoon turns drier, with some brighter glimmers developing. It will feel fresher than today, with a maximum temperature of 16°C.

The Rest of the Week

From Wednesday through to Friday, expect more of the same. Conditions stay largely dry and cloudy, although the odd shower is possible. Friday brings some bright spells, but the trade-off is cooler air settling in across Cornwall and the wider South West.

So, no washouts on the way, but no proper sunshine either. Bring a layer.
