Heavy Rain Warning Issued: Travel Delays and Flood Risk Expected

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office, in place from 12:00 today (Tuesday 4th November) until 06:00 tomorrow (Wednesday 5th November).

Heavy Rain Moving In

Early rain is expected to turn heavier, more persistent and more widespread during Tuesday afternoon before easing early on Wednesday.
According to the Met Office, 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected widely, with some exposed south-facing hills such as the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor likely to see over 50 mm.

Travel Disruption Expected

The Met Office warns that spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer, while bus and train services may also be affected. Travellers are urged to check road conditions, bus and train timetables, and amend their travel plans if necessary.

Advice from the Met Office

People are being advised to check if their property is at risk of flooding and to prepare a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
The Met Office adds that people cope better with power cuts when they’ve prepared in advance, suggesting the gathering of torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essential items.

They also remind the public that weather warnings can change quickly, recommending that everyone stay up to date with the latest forecast for their area.

Why Yellow?

The yellow warning has been issued because the weather has a medium likelihood and a low impact according to the Met Office.
