Cornwall’s Soggy Week Hides a Weekend Worth Waiting For

If you have been eyeing up a beach trip or a barbecue this week, hold that thought for a few days. The forecasters reckon Cornwall has to get through a wet and blustery stretch first, but there is a turn coming.

Here is what the days ahead look like across the region.

Showers today, then rain rolling in

Today brings a mix of sunny spells and showers across the South West. Some of those showers could turn heavy and merge into longer spells of rain at times. It will feel pleasant when the sun does break through, but otherwise rather cool for June, not helped by a blustery breeze. The top temperature is around 16°C.

Through tonight the showers should ease off, leaving a cool evening with a few late sunny spells. Temperatures will rebound a touch as cloud builds overnight, before rain pushes in from the west during the early hours of Thursday. The overnight low is about 8°C.

A wet and muggy Thursday

Thursday 11th starts wet, with rain spreading across the region and turning locally heavy at times. By the afternoon it should ease to something lighter and patchier, though it stays widely cloudy throughout. Expect it to feel muggy despite the wind, with the temperature climbing a little higher to around 18°C.

The weekend turns drier

Friday 12th keeps the cloudy, breezy theme going with patchy rain around. But the weekend is where things look up. Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th are set to be drier and warmer, with the winds easing too. Sunny spells should start to emerge, though low cloud and fog may linger along the coasts.

So if you can sit tight through the showers, the back half of the week is looking a good deal kinder.
