Cornwall’s Cold Snap Eases as Frost Warning Hits Tonight

After days of teeth-chattering chill, Cornwall is finally about to catch a break. But before you pack away the woollies, there’s a frosty sting in the tail tonight.

The Met Office forecast for Friday 15th May through to Tuesday 19th May points to drier, brighter conditions across South West England, with the bitter edge slowly lifting off the air.

A Friday on the Mend

Friday started cold but the day is set to be mostly dry with bright or sunny spells breaking through. A few light showers can’t be ruled out as the day goes on. Winds will steadily ease, which should take some of the bite out of the air. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 14°C.

Frost Returns Tonight

Don’t get too comfortable. The odd light coastal shower is possible after dark, but otherwise the night will be dry with clear spells and light winds. That combination is the perfect recipe for temperatures to drop sharply, with a patchy frost expected to form. The mercury could fall as low as 3°C.

Anyone with tender plants in the garden will want to take note.

Saturday Stays Mostly Dry

Saturday begins dry, bright and chilly, before cloud starts rolling in from the west as the day goes on. Some light rain is possible in the west by evening, but most of the day should hold up. Maximum temperature climbs slightly to 15°C.

What’s Coming Next Week

The settled spell doesn’t last. Showery rain will push east across the region on Sunday. Monday turns cloudy with some rain arriving later in the day. By Tuesday, things take a proper turn, with wet and windy weather setting in.

The one piece of good news is that temperatures will be slowly creeping back up towards average as the week goes on.
