Cornwall Set for a Soggy Weekend Before Warmer Spell Arrives

If you were hoping to dust off the garden furniture this weekend, you might want to hold off. Cornwall is in for a wet couple of days before things start looking up next week.

The Met Office forecast for South West England, covering Saturday 16th May through to Wednesday 20th May, points to a chilly and unsettled weekend giving way to milder conditions as the week progresses.

A wet start to the weekend

Saturday begins under cloud with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, which is expected to turn more persistent as the day goes on. Heavier bursts are possible over higher ground, and temperatures will struggle to reach a maximum of 15 °C. It will feel notably chilly for mid May.

Overnight into Sunday, the rain clears eastwards. Broken cloud and clear spells follow, although a few light showers are possible, mainly across western parts of the region. Temperatures drop to a low of 6 °C.

Sunday brings sunshine and showers

Sunday offers a brighter picture, at least to start. Bright or sunny spells are expected alongside scattered showers until late afternoon. After that, the showers turn more widespread and sometimes heavy, and there is a small chance of thunder. The maximum temperature again reaches 15 °C.

Turning warmer next week

The new working week begins on a windy note, with showers or longer spells of rain on the cards. There is better news on the way though. Temperatures are forecast to start climbing, and more settled weather looks likely as the week draws on.

So if the weekend washes out the washing, hang fire. The garden may yet get its moment.
