21/01/2024 – MET Office increase Weather Alert To Cover Whole Of Cornwall
Cornwall braces itself as the Met Office escalates weather alerts to encompass the entire region in anticipation of Storm Isha. An amber warning for extreme winds is now in effect from 6:00 PM today until 6:00 AM tomorrow, signalling a period of potentially hazardous conditions.
Storm Isha, characterised by its ferocious wind speeds, poses a significant threat to the area, with the Met Office cautioning residents about disruptions to travel and utilities. The warning underscores the likelihood of widespread power cuts, which could extend to disruptions in mobile phone coverage. The severity of the storm raises concerns about the resilience of infrastructure, with potential damage to buildings, including tiles being blown off roofs, being a real possibility.
Transport services across Cornwall are expected to face major disruptions. Longer journey times and cancellations are anticipated as road, rail, air, and ferry services grapple with adverse weather conditions. Key routes may see closures, especially roads and bridges deemed unsafe in the face of the storm’s might.
One of the most immediate dangers posed by Storm Isha comes from the coastal areas. Large waves and beach material propelled onto coastal roads, seafronts, and properties present a serious risk to life and property. The public is strongly advised to stay away from these areas during the storm’s peak.
Residents of Cornwall are urged to prepare for the storm by securing outdoor objects, staying informed about the latest weather updates, and planning for potential disruptions to travel and utilities.
As Storm Isha approaches, the community is reminded to prioritise safety and adhere to official guidance and warnings. The Met Office continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as the storm progresses.
