Cornwall Just Hit 33°C and the Heatwave Isn’t Done Yet
Cornwall is baking. If you stepped outside today and felt the heat hit you like an open oven door, you weren’t imagining it. The mercury has climbed to figures we rarely see this side of summer, and the forecast suggests this hot spell has a few more days left in it.
A scorcher of a Tuesday
Today, Tuesday 26th May, has been a dry and widely sunny day right across the South West, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 33°C. That is well above average for the time of year. Some cloud may bubble up later in the day, and there is an outside chance of a thunderstorm rolling in.
The warmth carries on into the evening. Tonight stays fine and warm for most, though there is still the risk of the odd thunderstorm early on. Skies should turn largely clear overnight, with the temperature dropping no lower than 13°C.
Wednesday stays warm
Wednesday brings another dry and sunny day. Some cloud may push into the far west of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, so those out towards Land’s End and beyond might see a little more grey than the rest of us. It won’t be quite as hot, but it will still feel very warm, with a maximum of 30°C.
What happens at the weekend
From Thursday through to Saturday, things stay largely dry and settled. A few showers may develop from time to time, so it won’t be wall to wall sunshine. It will feel very warm to begin with, but the heat will start to ease off a little as the weekend approaches.
So make the most of it while it lasts.
