Cornwall is in for a wild ride as relentless heavy rainstorms loom large on the horizon. Brace yourselves, folks, because January 4th is about to become a day to remember, with Cornwall taking the brunt of Mother Nature’s fury. The Met Office is waving the yellow flag of caution, issuing a rainstorm warning that has sent shockwaves across the county.
This ominous weather warning is slated to come into effect at midday, and it doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon. Hold onto your umbrellas because this rain extravaganza will persist until approximately 3 am on Friday, January 5th. Cornwall, in its entirety, is about to bear the brunt of this relentless assault, with Penzance, Truro, and Newquay areas all under the rain’s unforgiving spell.
This latest weather alert arrives hot on the heels of the destructive Storm Henk, which recently unleashed its havoc upon Cornwall. The impending watery deluge is poised to wreak havoc yet again, with the grim possibility of power outages, widespread flooding, and travel chaos looming large.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, issued a stern warning, stating, “The path of this deluge remains uncertain, but there’s a looming threat of 20 to 30 mm of rain pouring down within a 6 to 9-hour window across the warning zone. In some unfortunate areas, the deluge might even escalate to a staggering 40-50 mm. With this rain falling on already saturated ground, the consequences could be dire. To add to the mix, a stalled weather front will continue to shower the northeast with rain and showers.”
Cornwall, hold onto your hats (and umbrellas)! This is a downpour you won’t want to miss—or maybe, you’ll want to stay as far away from it as possible!
