If you drew the curtains this morning and wrote the weekend off, give it another look. Cornwall opens Friday with a wet, blustery dawn, but the pattern from here bends steadily towards clear skies and the warmest day of the run. Here is how the Cornwall weather shapes up between now and the middle of next week.

Today, Friday 4 September

The day starts damp. There is a 90% chance of rain around 6am, so the school run in this first week back and the commute out of Truro will both want a coat. Once that clears the cloud breaks up into sunny intervals, and the top temperature reaches 20°C, though a brisk wind gusting to 32mph keeps it feeling closer to 17°C. It is a day of two halves rather than a washout.

Tonight

The wind drops and the sky clears. Temperatures ease back to around 10°C overnight, cool enough for the first hint that summer is loosening its grip.

Saturday

A quieter, kinder day. Sunny intervals through the afternoon, a high of 20°C and only a 10% chance of rain late on. The wind falls away too, with gusts no more than 17mph, so the coast paths and beaches should feel calm after Friday’s bluster. The overnight low stays mild at 15°C.

Sunday

The pick of the week. Full sunshine, the mercury climbing to 22°C, and a warm night to follow with lows around 17°C. There is a small 20% chance of a shower very late in the evening, but for most of the day it is shorts and sun cream weather. If you are planning one trip out, this is the one to earmark.

Into next week

Monday holds on to the sunny intervals at 20°C, with the wind edging up again to 27mph gusts and a 30% chance of a shower by the evening. Tuesday is the breeziest day of the lot, gusts touching 34mph and a 50% chance of early rain around dawn, with the high slipping to 19°C. From there the sunshine gives way. Wednesday turns cloudy at 18°C and Thursday grey and overcast at 19°C, the clear spells of the weekend already a memory by the time the working week is out.
