Cornwall weather: Friday 9 October, wet and blustery then brighter

If you are heading out this morning, take the waterproofs and expect the wind to have an opinion about your hood. Cornwall starts the day wet and gusty, with the rain turning heavier before lunch. The reward comes later, because the skies clear from the southeast through the afternoon and leave something much brighter to finish on. Today, Friday 9 October

A milder start, but a damp one, with patchy rain that becomes more persistent and at times heavy as the morning goes on. The wind makes it feel blustery with it. Through the afternoon the rain clears away southeastwards, which opens the door to some sunshine for the rest of the day. It stays breezy, and it turns cooler as the brighter skies arrive. The high reaches 17°C.

Tonight

Clear spells to begin the evening, with a few light showers floating around. More showers develop overnight, especially across the west of Cornwall. The wind eases down, and it turns noticeably chillier than recent nights, with the temperature dropping to around 7°C. Worth a thicker layer if you are out late.

Saturday

A mixed day. Scattered showers come through, but there is plenty of sunshine in between them, so it is far from a washout. The showers and the wind both ease later in the afternoon. It feels cooler than Friday, with a high of 16°C.

The outlook: Sunday to Tuesday

Cloud and rain push in from the southwest on Sunday, and some patchy, light, drizzly rain hangs on into Monday. That rain then clears to brighter skies on Tuesday. The air turns milder as southerly winds take over, so the cooler feel of the weekend does not stick around for long.
