If you have been putting off jobs in the garden, this is the morning to get them done. Truro wakes up to clear skies and next to no chance of rain, and it is about as settled as the week gets. The calm does not last. By Tuesday afternoon Cornwall could be catching gusts of more than 40mph, so it is worth making the most of the quiet start. Here is how the week’s weather shapes up across the county.

Today

Monday brings full sunshine to Truro and the wider Cornwall area, with a high of 18°C and a low of 12°C. It will feel a shade cooler than the thermometer suggests, closer to 17°C at its best. The chance of rain sits below 5%, so you can leave the waterproofs at home. Winds stay light for now, gusting to around 20mph.

Tonight

Clear skies hold overnight and the temperature dips to about 13°C. The wind falls away to a gentle 7mph, making for a still, comfortable evening before things shift.

Tuesday

This is where the week turns. Tuesday (29 September) is the warmest day on the board, with a high of 20°C, but it arrives under overcast skies rather than sunshine. Rain becomes more likely through the afternoon, with a 40% chance around 4pm. The bigger story is the wind. Gusts could reach 44mph, so expect it to feel blustery along the coast and anywhere exposed. The overnight low stays up at 15°C.

Wednesday

Sunny intervals return on Wednesday (30 September), though the wind is not finished. Gusts of up to 43mph are forecast, and there is a 50% chance of rain first thing, around 6am. Once the early wet clears the day brightens, reaching 19°C before dropping back to 11°C overnight.

Thursday to the weekend

From Thursday the pattern settles into something calmer. Thursday (1 October) keeps the sunny intervals with a high of 18°C, gusts easing to 23mph and a 30% chance of early rain. Friday (2 October) looks similar at 19°C with lighter winds around 19mph. The weekend stays in the same groove. Saturday (3 October) reaches 19°C with only a 20% chance of a shower in the afternoon and the calmest winds of the week at 15mph, and Sunday (4 October) holds at 18°C with sunny intervals and barely any rain in the forecast.

So the shape of the week is a bright, quiet Monday, a windy and warmer middle, then a gradual return to steadier sunshine. The gusts are the part worth keeping an eye on.
