Cornwall weather: Monday 31 August, heavy, thundery showers to start

August signs off with a reminder that summer is on the way out. If you are heading out on bank holiday Monday, pack for showers, because the Met Office is warning of a few heavy and possibly thundery bursts this morning across the South West, Cornwall included. It should brighten up later, though, and here is how the weather plays out to the end of the week.

Today

A rather showery morning is in store, with a few of those showers turning heavy and possibly thundery. They should ease off through the afternoon, letting more brightness break through. Temperatures sit near average, with a high of around 21°C. So a soggy start, then a better finish.

Tonight

Any showers that linger become increasingly restricted to western coasts through the evening, leaving a dry night with clearing skies for most. It stays mild, down to about 12°C, with a few mist patches forming.

Tuesday

Tuesday (1 September), the first day of meteorological autumn, starts bright for many. Cloud and scattered showers then spread east from the far west as the day goes on. Eastern areas should hold onto the driest and brightest conditions the longest, and the high edges up to 22°C.

Wednesday to Friday

The changeable theme carries on. Wednesday (2 September) opens bright before a band of rain arrives later in the day. Thursday (3 September) brings further rain at times, then things turn drier and brighter again on Friday (4 September). Temperatures stay near or a little above average throughout. A fittingly unsettled start to autumn, with the brighter spells never far from the next batch of rain.
