Cornwall weather: Sunday 2 August, 29°C peak before Tuesday storms

If you have been waiting for a proper summer weekend, this is it. The next couple of days across Cornwall stay dry and warm, with Monday climbing towards the high twenties before the heat runs out of road midweek. Here is how the week shapes up, based on the Met Office forecast for the South West.

Today

A dry Sunday, and it will feel very warm wherever the sun breaks through. Some patchy cloud builds through the afternoon, but there is still plenty of sunshine to go round. The maximum temperature reaches 23°C.

Tonight

The evening stays bright, with sunny spells hanging on across the region. It remains dry overnight under clear spells, and rather warm with it, though rural spots turn a little fresher after dark. The minimum temperature dips to 7°C.

Monday

The warmest day of the run. Monday is dry with clear or sunny spells, and cloud thickening across the west at times leaves the sky looking a bit hazy. It feels very warm and humid, the kind of sticky heat that hangs around. The maximum temperature hits 29°C.

Tuesday to Thursday

Here is where it turns. Tuesday to Thursday looks rather changeable, with sunny spells trading places with showers. Those showers turn locally heavy on Tuesday, and there is a chance of thunder mixed in. Things settle down somewhat from Wednesday, drier again, with temperatures easing back closer to average.

So make the most of the sunshine while it lasts. By Tuesday the sky may have other ideas.
