Cornwall weather: Tuesday 1 September, sunny start then cloud
If you have outdoor plans this morning, get them in early. Cornwall opens September with the brightest few hours you will see all week, and by the time the kettle goes on for elevenses the sun is already sharing the sky with cloud. From tomorrow the blue all but disappears. So today’s sunny intervals are the pick of the next seven days. Here is how the week’s weather across Cornwall shapes up, using the latest Met Office forecast for Truro.

Today
Sunny intervals to start, with a high of 20°C and an overnight low of 16°C. It feels a touch cooler than the thermometer says, around 19°C in the breeze. There is a 40% chance of a shower around midday, so the bright spells are not guaranteed to last the afternoon. Wind gusts reach 20mph.
Tonight
Partly cloudy and mild. Temperatures hold up at 16°C, one of the milder nights you will get this month.
Wednesday
Cloudy through the day, warming to 21°C. This is the windiest day of the week by some way, with gusts hitting 31mph, so expect it to feel blustery on the coast and up on the moors. A 30% chance of early rain around 8am, easing later.

Thursday
Overcast and the warmest day of the run at 22°C, dropping to 18°C after dark. There is a 40% chance of rain first thing at 7am, which is worth knowing with schools back across Cornwall for the start of the autumn term on Thursday 3 September. Gusts settle to 25mph.
Friday
More of the same grey. Overcast skies, a high of 22°C and a low of 16°C. A 30% chance of rain mid-morning around 10am, and gusts again to 25mph.
The weekend
Saturday is the calmest day of the lot. Cloudy, up to 21°C, with the wind dropping right back to 16mph gusts and just a 30% chance of an early shower at 7am. Sunday clouds over further to overcast, cools slightly to 20°C, and the wind picks back up to 28mph gusts with a 40% chance of rain in the morning.

Into next week
Monday 7 September is when the sun tries again. Sunny intervals return with a high of 20°C, though gusts of 26mph mean it will not feel like a settled end to the picture. After a week spent under cloud, whether the brighter skies hold is the question worth watching.
