Cornwall weather: Tuesday 15 September, sunny spells and fresher air

The muggy spell is breaking. A much fresher feel arrives across Cornwall and the wider South West this week, with brighter skies to enjoy between the showers and a clear drop in the closeness that has hung around of late. Here is how the weather across Cornwall shapes up, with the Met Office headline promising bright spells and showers.

Today (Tuesday 15 September)

It is a cloudy start, with outbreaks of rain sinking southeastwards across the region first thing. From mid-morning it turns drier and brighter from the west, and plenty of dry and sunny spells follow through the day. A few isolated showers may form later on, but the bigger change is how it feels: much fresher than of late. The temperature still reaches a high of around 21°C.

Tonight

Showers continue in places overnight, carried on a northwesterly breeze that turns gusty around the coast. It clouds over as the night goes on and feels cooler than recent nights, with the temperature dropping to a low of around 10°C.

Wednesday

The wind eases through Wednesday as it swings from a northwesterly to a westerly. Showers stick around across the region but turn lighter, and temperatures sit around the September average, with a high near 19°C.

Thursday to Saturday

Thursday brings a wet and windy day, so it is one to keep an eye on. Things start to turn more settled again by Friday, with westerly winds developing and just the odd light shower to dodge. Temperatures stay near normal for the time of year.

After a sticky few weeks, it is the fresher, westerly feel that takes over now, and the showers come and go around it rather than settling in for good.
