Cornwall weather: Wednesday 26 August, sun before a wet Bank Holiday

You could be forgiven for reaching straight for the suncream this morning. Truro wakes up to sunny intervals and a pleasant 22°C, and the first half of the day looks kind. Hold that thought, though, because the Bank Holiday weekend has firmly different ideas for the Cornwall weather picture.

Today

Wednesday brings sunny intervals across the Truro area, with the temperature climbing to a high of 22°C and easing back to around 17°C. It will feel a touch cooler than the number suggests, closer to 20°C, once the breeze is in the mix. There is a 30% chance of a shower around midday, so it is far from a washout, and gusts reach up to 21mph.

Tonight

The bright spells do not hang around. Tonight turns cloudier as light showers develop, with temperatures staying up at around 19°C. A mild, muggy sort of night to sleep through.

Thursday

Thursday keeps the same theme of sunny intervals, but it starts wet. There is an 80% chance of light showers first thing, around 6am, before the brighter breaks work their way back in. The high slips to 21°C with an overnight low of 17°C, and the wind picks up a little, gusting to 25mph.

Friday

Friday reads much the same on paper. Sunny intervals again, a high of 21°C and a low of 16°C, with a 60% chance of light showers in the early morning. The wind stays fresh, gusting to 25mph.

Saturday

Here is where the weekend turns. Saturday brings light rain through the day, with an 80% chance of heavy rain around 6am to set the tone. The high holds at 21°C and the low at 16°C, but the wind is the real story, gusting to 34mph. Waterproofs, and a firm hand on anything that is not tied down.

Sunday and the outlook

Sunday stays unsettled to round off the Bank Holiday weekend. Light showers, a cooler high of 20°C and a low of 15°C, with a 40% chance of rain in the early morning and gusts still lively at 31mph.
