Cornwall weather: Wednesday 9 September, 20°C sun before the rain

A bit of everything is on the way this week. The Met Office is calling it changeable, with warm sunshine to make the most of today before the rain and wind muscle back in. Here is how the next few days look across Cornwall and the wider South West weather picture.

Today: sunny spells and a pleasant 20°C

A few showers are likely in the west first thing, but otherwise most areas should see a dry day with sunny spells. The brisk northwesterly wind eases through the day, and it feels pleasant enough where the sun breaks through. The high reaches 20°C.

Tonight: clear spells, then rain creeps in

The evening starts fine with some sunshine, and clear spells are likely overnight. Cloud builds in from the west though, with patchy rain arriving across west Devon and Cornwall by the end of the night. It turns chilly under those early clear skies, with the temperature dropping to 7°C.

Thursday: a wet and breezy turn

Thursday starts with early sunshine in the east, but it does not hold. Cloud and patchy rain spread in from the west, and the afternoon turns increasingly wet and breezy, with heavier rain arriving later in the day. Despite the change, the high still climbs to 20°C.

Friday to the weekend: brighter, then wet again

Friday brings a return to much brighter skies with lighter winds, the pick of the days if you have plans to make. It does not settle for long. A spell of wet and windy weather arrives on Saturday night, before a brighter but showery set-up returns for Sunday. Changeable is the word, and it looks like staying that way.
