Sixteen Join Butterfly and Bird Walk at Penrose Water Gardens, Truro

The forecast was hardly promising, but it did not stop sixteen people pulling on their boots and heading out in search of butterflies and birds.

The group gathered at Penrose Water Gardens in Truro for Connect with Nature’s Butterfly and Bird Watching Walk, an event held to mark World Environment Day, Butterfly Education and Awareness Day, and Global Butterfly Week.

The weather did its best to interfere. It stayed cloudy for much of the day, with only a few seconds of sunny intervals and the odd droplet of rain. Even so, the walkers came away having seen a handful of species, including butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, bees, deer and birds, among others.

Who was behind the walk

The day was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, who founded Connect with Nature and chairs the group. Rowena also leads the RSPB Kernow Group and works as Publicity Officer for Cornwall Birds.

Rob Nicholls took on the role of fieldtrip leader, guiding the group around the gardens.

The outing wrapped up away from the water gardens, with the group heading to The Cornish Barista for a chat and a meal to round off the day.
