10 Cornwall Beaches Awarded Blue Flag Status – Is Your Favourite on the List?

Published On: 15 May 2025Last Updated: 15 May 2025By

Ten beaches across Cornwall have been officially recognised as some of the best in the world after being awarded Blue Flag status for summer 2025.

The Blue Flag is a globally recognised award managed in the UK by Keep Britain Tidy, on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education. It’s only given to beaches that meet the highest standards for water quality, as set by the EU Bathing Water Directive, and that run an environmental education programme.

Nine Cornwall Council Beaches Awarded

Nine of the ten Blue Flag beaches are owned by Cornwall Council and will be flying the flag this summer:

  • Crooklets

  • Polzeath

  • Porthmeor

  • Porthminster

  • Porthmissen (Trevone)

  • Porthtowan

  • Summerleaze

  • Widemouth

  • Gyllyngvase

Carbis Bay in St Ives, which is privately owned, also received Blue Flag status.

Five More Earn Seaside Awards

Another five beaches in Cornwall have received the Seaside Award, a national mark of quality for England’s best beaches. These awards celebrate the diversity and cleanliness of the coastline:

  • Crackington Haven

  • Great Western

  • Porth

  • Portreath

  • Sennen

Stay Safe and Check Dog Restrictions

Cornwall Council commissions the RNLI to provide lifeguard cover on many of the region’s beaches. Beachgoers are encouraged to visit beaches with RNLI patrols by checking this RNLI beach finder and to follow RNLI beach safety advice.

From today, 15th May, dogs are not permitted on some beaches between 10am and 6pm. Find out if your favourite beach is affected here.
