This Hidden Film Location Reopens for Easter Magic

Antony house and gardens, tucked away on the banks of the River Lynher near Torpoint, will welcome visitors again from 1st April following months of winter conservation work and preparation by the National Trust team.

A Historic Home Returns for the Season

The 18th-century manor house, which remains home to the Carew Pole family, offers visitors a rare look inside a lived-in historic property. Alongside the house, the surrounding gardens provide a peaceful setting for visitors to explore throughout spring and summer.

Inside, visitors will also be able to see recent changes to the Tapestry Room. The space, which had been used as Sir Tremayne’s study, has now been restored to reflect its former grandeur, with a historic carpet and colourful 17th and 18th century furniture reinstated.

Easter Trail Inspired by a Blockbuster Film

This Easter, the gardens will transform into ‘Wonderland’, inspired by Antony’s appearance in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Families can follow a themed trail through the gardens, taking part in games and challenges along the way, with a chocolate egg waiting at the end.

Inside the house, volunteers will share stories about the Carew Pole family, while younger visitors will be encouraged to dress up in the play room. Visitors of all ages can also take part in spotting Easter eggs hidden throughout the house.

Clare Dearden, House and Collections Officer, said: “We can’t wait to see the house full of visitors again, and after the months of collection care and cleaning, the house team are more than ready to have our lovely volunteers back for the season. Easter is such a special time at Antony and we all get into the spirit of it!”

Gardens in Full Spring Colour

The gardens at Antony have also been prepared for the new season. Designed by Humphrey Repton, the landscape includes formal gardens, topiary, modern sculptures and a historic collection of daylilies.

David Bouch, Head Gardener for the National Trust in the Tamar Valley, said: “I can’t believe how good the gardens are looking this year. I’ve seen many seasons at Antony and this spring is just magical, especially after such a wet winter. Visitors will be met with a wall of colour of scent, from fritillarias at your feet to magnolias bringing the pastel shades at every turn. And of course, there’s nothing like the view from the gardens over Antony passage.”

Opening Details

Antony will be open from 12pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Sundays in June, July and August, and all bank holidays with their adjoining Sundays.
