| Cornwall Folk Festival brings five days of live folk music, dance and Cornish culture to Wadebridge, opening Thursday with a high octane Nos Lowen from Skillywidden, pioneers of the modern Cornish dance scene.
Friday showcases three emerging voices in contemporary folk: Martha Woods’ techno folk, Wake The River’s atmospheric eco folk, and the heartfelt songwriting of St Fian. Saturday’s Celtic influenced double bill features the fast bluegrass of Flats and Sharps alongside the Eurofolk and synth pop fusion of Elizabeth Davidson Blythe and Daniel Quayle. Sunday welcomes one of the UK’s leading folk musicians, Steve Knightley, performing with his new project The Winter Yards Band, joined by Cornwall’s Americana duo True Foxes. The Betjeman Centre hosts two intimate concerts: Gavin Fairhall Lever’s folk jazz classical blend on Friday, and Detta Kenzie’s cinematic indie folk with Chris Cleverley on Sunday. Poet Rob Barratt brings sharp humour and wordplay on Friday afternoon. Outdoors, the FAR Stage showcases 28 Cornish and southwest acts, from traditional folk and harmony groups to standout solo singers and lively alt folk bands, ending each day with high energy sets. With free music, dance, pub sessions and workshops, Cornwall Folk Festival offers one of the region’s most vibrant folk music weekends. Times: various events. Thurs Nos Lowen 8pm onwards. Sessions start around noon on Friday and continue all weekend, with 2.30pm gig with Rob Barratt and 2 x evening gigs — town hall at 7pm, Betjeman Centre at 7.30.
