Anyone who has hauled themselves up Stippy Stappy knows the value of a place to sit. Halfway along one of St Agnes’ best-loved paths, a small bench has long given walkers a reason to stop, catch their breath and enjoy the view. For a while, that little pause was off limits. Now it is back.

St Agnes Parish Council has confirmed that the bench on Stippy Stappy has been repaired and is ready to use again, after some of its timber was damaged.

What happened to the bench

The bench had been damaged recently, with some of the seat slats broken. That left it out of action for anyone hoping to rest on the way up or down.

The council’s Maintenance Team stepped in to sort it out. The damaged timber has now been replaced, and the fresh slats are easy to spot against the older, weathered wood and the bench’s mossy concrete frame.

A quick fix from the Maintenance Team

The Parish Council has thanked its Maintenance Team for the speed of the repair. The team responded quickly once the damage was reported, and the bench is once again safe to sit on.

“A big thank you to our Maintenance Team for their quick work repairing the bench on Stippy Stappy,” the council said in a post on its St Agnes Parish Council Facebook page, adding thanks to the team “for getting it repaired so promptly and helping to keep our public spaces safe, usable and cared for.”

One of St Agnes’ best-known walks

Stippy Stappy is one of the well-known paths linking the village with the beach. The steep route is a favourite with locals and visitors, and the little bench is a welcome pause along the way, especially on the climb back up.

With the repair done, anyone walking up or down can once again stop for a rest and enjoy the spot.
