Cornwall weather: Tuesday 25 August, showers clear to sunny spells

If you are heading out across Cornwall this morning, take the coat with you. The week opens grey and damp, but stick with it, because the next few days brighten up and the temperatures climb back into the low twenties. Here is the full Cornwall weather picture, from today’s showers to a breezy bank holiday weekend.

Today

Cornwall wakes up under cloud with light showers around, the wettest of it early on. The Met Office puts the chance of rain at 70% by 6am, so the first part of the day is the one to keep an eye on. Highs reach 21°C, though with an east-north-easterly breeze gusting to 25mph it will feel closer to 19°C. The showers should ease off as the day goes on.

Tonight

The evening stays cloudy and the rain risk drops right back, down to between 10 and 20%. Mist forms as the night wears on and temperatures hold up around 16°C, so it stays mild rather than cold.

Wednesday

The switch flips on Wednesday. Sunny intervals return, the high edges up to 22°C and the wind eases to gusts of 22mph. Rain stays away until late, with only a 40% chance creeping in by 11pm. A much better day to be outside.

Thursday

More of the same on Thursday, with sunny intervals again and another 22°C high. There is a 50% chance of a shower around dawn, but a low of 15°C means a fresher feel first thing. Gusts reach 24mph.

Friday

Friday keeps the brighter run going. Sunny intervals, a high of 21°C and the driest start of the week so far, with the rain chance down to 30% at 6am. Winds gust to 24mph.

The weekend and bank holiday Monday

The weekend is where things turn less settled. Saturday still offers sunny intervals and a high of 21°C, but a band of light rain pushes the morning chance up to 70% around 6am, and gusts strengthen to 28mph. Sunday turns showery again with a high of 20°C, and the wind becomes the story, gusting to 32mph. Monday, the August bank holiday, holds onto sunny intervals at 19°C but keeps a 50% shower risk with gusts near 31mph. So the long weekend looks bright in patches and breezy throughout, with the strongest winds saved for its final days.
