Lostwithiel, Hayle, Newquay: four dogs waiting to go home

Somewhere across Cornwall this week, four households are missing a dog and don’t yet know where to look. Cornwall Council’s animal welfare team has picked up four stray dogs in the space of a few days, from a quiet corner of the county to a busy seaside town, and every one of them is now waiting in care for someone to come and claim them.

The first is a liver and white Cocker Spaniel, found in Lostwithiel. Distinctive colouring and a breed that rarely goes far without an owner nearby usually makes for a quick reunion, but for now the spaniel is in the care of the council’s officers.

A cross-breed from Hayle, and two more still unclaimed

A black cross-breed was picked up in Hayle, and two smaller dogs have also come in from opposite ends of the county. A small brown cross-breed was found in Porkellis, and a small brown and white cross-breed turned up in Newquay. All four are now being looked after while the search goes on for their owners.

Cornwall Council is holding all four dogs while it tries to trace where they came from, part of the everyday work of the authority’s animal welfare team. Anyone missing a dog matching one of these descriptions is asked to call 0300 1234 212 to report them.
