Whistlefish shoppers’ spare £1s add up for Cornwall animal rescue

A pound here, a pound there. Nobody adding a little extra to their basket last month would have thought much of it. But stack enough of them up and you get something a rescue can really use.

Cornish business Whistlefish chose Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue & Rehome for its Good Causes promotion during September, and the total is now in. Customers raised £1,864 for the rescue, known as LCH.

How the money was raised

The idea was simple. Whistlefish customers were invited to add an extra £1 at checkout, and plenty of them did.

LCH said it was “delighted” with the result and sent “huge and heartfelt thanks” to Lowenna and the Whistlefish team, as well as the customers who chipped in.

“Proving that many small actions can amount to real difference,” the rescue added.

Why every pound counts

The rescue has more than 30 animals in what it calls ‘Rest of Life’ foster. And the animals arriving at LCH often need extensive veterinary care.

That adds up. According to the rescue, its monthly vet bill rarely falls below £5,000.

“We are immensely grateful for the support of Whistlefish and their dog-loving customers,” LCH said.

Missy, the poster girl

One of the rescue’s own residents played her part too. Missy was the ‘poster girl’ for the LCH blog on the Whistlefish website.

She now lives in the ‘Rest of Life’ foster home of Lynn Phillips.
