Eight Pubs, One Lost Railway and a Church With a Strange Origin Story

If you fancy a walk that takes in spring flowers, a vanished railway line and a church with a curious backstory, iWalk Cornwall has just added one to its books that ticks all three boxes.

The new 7.1 mile circular route loops through Perranporth, Goonhavern and the Bolingey valley, and follows part of the Saints’ Trail along the old trackbed of the Newquay to Perranporth railway. It also passes Perranzabuloe church, which was originally built using stone from the dismantled church in the dunes.

What’s on the route

Graded easy to moderate, the walk takes in the riverside path along the Saints’ Trail, fields above Bolingey, footpaths near Perranporth and the area around Goonhavern. Highlights flagged by iWalk Cornwall include spring flowers along the Saints’ Trail and the Perranzabuloe church itself.

The walk was added to the site on 8th May 2026.

Plenty of stops for a pint

If you’re the sort who measures a walk by the number of pubs it passes, this one delivers. There are eight on or near the route. The New Inn, The Bolingey Inn, The Deck, The Green Parrot, The Perranporth Inn, The Seiners Arms, The Tywarnhayle Inn and The Watering Hole all sit on or close to the route.

Bringing the dog

There are two stiles after Goonhavern made of stone footholds about 3ft high, and a stone stile between fields after Perranzabuloe church that has a metal bar above it. Some dogs may need a hand getting over or through.

How to follow it

Full details are on the iWalk Cornwall website. The walk is also available through the iWalk Cornwall app for Apple and Android at £3.49, or as a PDF of directions for £2.99.

The recommended OS map is Explorer 106, and walking boots are advised.
